Conclusion
We have, through our research,
discovered many reasons why the Francophone and Anglophone communities in
Canada have clashed. Their rivalry goes all the way back to their conflicts
in Europe, e.g. the struggles between King of France Louis VII and Henry II.
Later in Canada the Anglophone and Francophone fought to control Hudson Bay,
which was the place to run the fur business. At this time
a world-wide French-British fight concerning the economic power in Europe
was going on, and therefore the North American territory and all it’s
riches were important to both countries.
A main reason why the conflict continued in Canada as distinct from the US
is that the French in Canada had to stand united against the British rule.
It is also very important for the popularity of the Quebecois separatism movement,
that the francophone part of the Canadian population actually is able to establish
their own nation.
When you think about Francophone/Anglophone politics, you think about The
Quebec referendums. They are the clearest examples of the rivalry between
the two communities in resent history. Quebec (Which is dominated by the French)
tried to become independent through these referendums.
The different ways of dealing with the inheritance made a big social difference
between Catholics and Protestants. The Protestants grew stronger than the
Catholics and that gave them an advantage in the war.
