Today’s question

Christianshavns embankment

Christianshavn’s embankment was built in the 17th-century. It was a fortress which 12 bastions. It was built around Christianshavn, and it was one of the many embankments, which surrounded Copenhagen. It was built to protect Copenhagen against enemies. The embankments were old, and not any good for defence in the 19th-century.

Christianshavn’s embankment is the only preserved embankment, which once surrounded Copenhagen.

The embankments go as far as from Kalvebod bastion near Langebro, past Christiania, and end near  the Quontus bastion at Refshaleøen.
