Clothes

Trough the 19th century we see a lot of different fashions. The mode mainly coming from London, Paris and Vienna. Even though we talk about different forms of fashion, they are still very similar.

• The gentlemen: The men would most certainly wear long trousers, shirt, and vest and of course a high cylinder formed hat, all in grey, black or dark brown colours. At occasions such as birthdays or Christmas they would all wear dinner jacked and black tie.
• The ladies: The fashion of the ladies on the other hand was more colourful and full of variety. Here we see the crinoline, a huge dress with a stand to lift it. The painful hip smaller, the corset is also very in fashion. Many women wear these every day. The crinoline would have varieties in colour and patterns.
• In the lower part of the society we see the poor and hardworking labours and farmers. With little cash on hand they do not follow the fashion. Instead they wear or the traditional clothes for their standard. It is very likely that their hygiene was so bad that they would wear the same clothes for days, and even sleep in it. At special occasions they would maybe wear their nicest suit, if they had more than one. It was also very likely that they had a little variety of colours, which only stayed wihtin the darker line. The women would have a scarf around their head. Almost all the men wore hats, but not high hats as the higher classes.
